The Azienda Agricola Il Mulinaccio is situated in the valley overlooking Vaiano, ancient town by the side of the river Bisenzio.
In the year 1500 the estates into which area "Il Mulinaccio" is devided, are brought forth as sharecropping. The owner is the florentine family Sassetti (Filippo Sassetti, navigator in the Indian Ocean, overnight here and many letters in his own handwriting are proving his stay in this land). In the year 1609 the property is being sold to the Strozzi family. On 20th January 1661 Stefano and Giovanni di Prospero Vaj buy "la bella possessione di moti poderi detta del Mulinaccio" for 14.800 scudi. By that time the property is composed of seven farms: Apparita, Belvedere, Casanuova, Granchiaia, Riposo, Strada, Tarravistio, but within the almost three centuries of Vaj belonging (280 years), the property will come up to 36 farms, each with its cultivated land, its house and annexes.

The XIX century bings great renovation to the property such as, regimen of water-courses with bridle and terraces, plantation of new pine-woods and cypresses, copse is being increased with new extraeuropean essences (a mejestic yew is still too be seen in the drain of "Spinaie"). Giuseppe Cavaliere di Santo Stefano, Senatore del Regno d'Italia, accademic of Georgofili is the one who strongly wanted, brought forth and personally followed up these improvements. An inscription near the water course remembers him in his centenarian (1904). The property reaches its greatest extension under the Vaj possession (Ferdinando Vaj dies on 30th January 1941): further to the share-farming estates, "terre a mano" (hand-worked) belong to the property along vineyards and almost thirty let farmhouses in the area of Schignano. After the death of the widower of Ferdinando Vaj, Caterina Guicciardini dei Conti di Usella, life tenant of her husband's properties, the main farm and all the possessions (houses, woods, vineyards, main villa etc) are rejected from the testamentary heirs (Cottolengo of Torino) and therefore sold by auction. The currently owner managed to buy the property, creating the "Azienda Agricola Il Mulinaccio", aiming to the big and grand style revival of the agricultural production of the year 2000.
